Easter weekend at the ring is a nightmare, to much people, you just can't drive, the track was closed many hours during the 3 days last year for crashes.

a week before of later regarding that Easter weekend would be better.

I love the idea anyway Csl meet at the ring of spa..

cslbecks
16-11-2008, 10:01 AM
Good point David - not much point choosing a weekend when every man and his dog are going to be there.

david
16-11-2008, 10:16 AM
the big problem on that weekend, is because it's a national day off for europeen countries before or just after for us French, belgium, german and dutch we just point a day off at work and it give is a 5 day holyday weekend so everybody goes there for at least 3 days.. and you just can't drive in fact

Normally on good weekend at the ring you can manage 15-20 laps of 2 days when it's a rush, (on Easter for exemple) most of my friend managed 6/8 laps... :smt011

dave1
16-11-2008, 12:01 PM
weekdays?

glendog74
16-11-2008, 12:30 PM
weekdays?

Agreed - a day or two either side of a weekend always works well. I tend to get most laps in on a Friday or Monday when it's quieter, then do more viewpoints/'car spotting' during the busier weekend

RichW
16-11-2008, 01:11 PM
What i like about Easter is that the atmosphere is simply buzzing -more so than a normal weekend - downside is the large crowds mean more time queuing, more accidents, more dickheads on track and less laps for you! Plus the Pistenklause is too packed with 90% of the newbies having steak on a stone = stingy eyes! :bigcry:

I'll be there though at Easter regardless!! :hahaha:

Thurs/Fri/Sat on track, Sunday spectating, back on track Monday :smokin: Home Tuesday :bigcry:

Best laps are late Monday evening, the locals have gone home, and 75% of the Brits have gone home, you've just got to make sure you dont kill your tires too soon and miss out

Andyk
16-11-2008, 01:52 PM
Maybe all depends on cost. As mentioned before baby due end of Jan so pennies a bit tight as wife not working for a year.

Later in the year would be better for me as Easter weekend is the wifes birthday. Could tell her I'm taking her to Europe for her birthday I suppose  ...so once things firmed up will let you know one way or other.

DazBlackCSL
16-11-2008, 02:22 PM
Ok , im there at Easter regardless , come rain , shine or Snow as it was last year !.. so agree with all your comments , about how busy etc , so will look at dates after easter as it seems later is better for some , reckon June / July ish then , so depending on when its open Max , as some week days its only open from 4pm etc , so we can get max all day times in at everyones pace.

When the dates are released , I will get everyones opinion and as many DELMONTE's as I can , then book the hotel for everyone ... and the restaurant (http://www.am-tiergarten.de/en/restaurant/) Pistenklaus for all of us ...

Watch this space

I am out there usually once a month or there abouts during the seasion, so count me in.
With regards to Easter weekend, its usually a bloody disaster with a combination of weather / how busy it can be and therefore track closure !
would we be better off trying to head out the month after and also try to avoid ( and this may sound odd ) a UK bank holiday weekend as there are normally too many weekend bikers over.
If at all possible include a monday.
P.S. I dont think there is much point in trying to decide on a weekend until the T.F. dates are confirmed which as far as I am aware does not happen till about mid Feb when the V.L.N. series race dates are settled on.

16-11-2008, 03:12 PM
what about a trackday? possibly shared with another club? circuit days had an open pit lane trackday early november for £219 which to me is abargain considering what it costs per lap on tf days

Definately up for a csl 'Ring weekend. Don't really want to bother with Easter weekend though for all the reasons previously mentioned. I go at least 4-5 times a year, so will happily hook up with you guys whenever you decide to go.

17-11-2008, 03:16 PM
Windy - sell your M3 and put the £9.75 you get for it towards a CSL - and if your predictions are correct and you wait til Xmas you'll only have to find another £100 and you'll be in a proper Ring car!!

Are you sure about the Schumacher track? We were there about 4-5 weeks ago & it didn’t look like a place about to be knocked down.

Myself & a few friends are planning a trip at Easter, with a bit of luck it won’t snow this year!

Easter weekend is very busy but in a sense it adds to the atmosphere, granted I wouldn’t go if there was a possibility of snow, but we took the gamble & I suppose the positive was we got an opportunity to do a few laps of the GP track.

I found the CSL just as good at touring as it is on track during my summer road trip this year. Comfier than i would have ever thought possible and dare i say even rather frugal when motorway cruising - for a 3.2ltr anyway! :smt023

Regarding the Ring, I have stayed at the Ringhaus the last couple of times as there tends to be a few 'likeminded' car nuts in the bar in the evening. I stayed at the Hotel An Der Nordschleife before that but the bar was closed... I think most places are pretty good for similar money. You can't beat a hot stone steak in Sabine's mum's Tiergarten restaurant

I normally stay at the Tiergarten Hotel and block book the Restaurant there every eve as its the best IMOP , good banter with the car nuts out there and a 2 second walk to bed !! so happy to do that when the dates are out , if everyone is cool , and we have agreed on dates etc etc ... Sabines Sister runs it and normally lets us book up to 20 ish people on my CC to hold rooms

Ditto spent most of that weekend throwing snowballs at each other. Had Cups on too, biggest problem tho was getting back to the B&B one night. Funny thing was until that weekend my car was hardly ever driven in the rain never mind feckin snow.

Can’t discuss all our antics but what was rapidly turning into a disastrous weekend ended a very enjoyable one or as we say here… the craic was good.

Ps. What road do us Scottish / Irish lads go?

bryce86 we go Belfast - Stranraer then Hull - Rotterdam, so you could join the convoy on the A75. I think its approx 400 miles shorter for us plus you get a few hours sleep on the Hull - Rotterdam crossing & the craic is usually good to.

I like your car with the spacers, looks mint. I was reading your post about the geometry set up to, I would suggest going to someone who can do the job right even if that means a bit of an excursion, always worth the extra effort. Just my 2p’s worth.

That sounds more like it - is a fair trek to Dover! Im only 75 miles from Stranraer.

Thank you, Im chuffed with the results. Its going to another local dealer next week to get the geo - theyve got good kit and the lads know what theyre doing. Costing £115 but it'll be worth it.

ps. you didnt happen to be nr Dumfries during the summer? Seen two CSLs chasing an Evo once, and have seen an Irish-un with WJZ plate.

If I am on the same trip, you can join us NE lads as we get the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam!

Just had a look @ this route, saves us another 200 miles round vs Hull. Any reason why you dont go this way J13NY S?

2 CSLs & a white EVO 5, ya that probably would have been myself, donkcsl & a friend of ours on the way back from The Ring. We usually don’t hang about on the A75... even if we’re on time for the ferry! One of my favourite roads, use to love driving it at night. Not sure who WJZ is tho.

We haven’t used the Newcastle – Amsterdam crossing before but I’m sure it’s worth us taken a look, the P&O from Hull seems very popular tho.

Ya quote sounds about right, then we have an extra crossing which is rather expensive at the moment makes the Hull crossing seem outstanding value.

The lorry drivers don’t hang around on the 75 either, remember following them early one morning… wasn’t long before we were on the M6.

I can see why Hazy is getting confused though... For some reason there's been a poll added to the top of this for "Ring Trip Easter 2009".

Hmmm?

Hi Kristof,

The main event that a fair few are going on is:

Fri 24 July - Mon 27 Jul (RING)

There are a few others going independently on an earlier trip with the MLR in May who will also be going to Spa.

Sat 2 May - Sun 3 May (RING)
Mon 4 May (SPA)
