I've never taken this car on the track before but I had a track day booked on Tuesday (4th October) and should of been using my track car but due to 'issues!' took the M3 as the track day was already paid for.
On the 4th lap of the day towards the top of the rev range the engine went bang, judging by the amount of oil left on the track I have priced the car for needing a replacement engine.
There is no warranty on the car hence why its up for sale.
Got a pack of paperwork with the car including original receipt, service info etc. I bought it off someone I know very well so haven't been through all the paperwork with a fine tooth comb but lots there! Guess it doesn't matter too much now anyway as most relates to the engine in it!
I know the whereabouts of a standard CSL engine 30K miles and the price to have it fitted therefore have took this into consideration and at £15k the person who sorts this out would have a few £K for their trouble.
Don't have the time at the moment to sort this myself however if it doesn't sell at £15K I'll keep the car and sort it when time allows.
Cheers
Andy

Sorry to hear about this Andy but it sounds like the bottom end finally gave up trying to produce that astonishing figure of 396 BHP !!! :119: and threw a rod through the block :smt087
Seems a shame to sell it off so cheap to some grease monkey
I think your idea of keeping the car and fixing it later is sound

What have you priced the replacement engine at, and how much for fitting?
I'm tempted by a winter project if there's a few ££ in it at the end...

Ok, in that case making it handle and go around corners
then.

It will make what it makes with the mods it has fitted.
Lots of people get caught up on figures, as long as the optimum is achieved on your setup then figures matter not.
@ g man- what gains are really achievable on ss manifolds and schrick cams? Real world gains/. 20bhp max?

Hi,
Mr Lawsy, 20 BHP might even be optimistic.
Cams add very little on the std engine CR,
and gaining more than 5 BHP on a header is really
going some given how good the std Header
is.
But, if it gets the S85 transplant none of this
will matter, as there will far more pressing
engine issues to occupy ones mind.

The Gorilla.

Its begging for a new V8 surely...
So who bought it...?

Hi,
The S65 or S85 into the E46 is no
walk in the park.
Lots of issues, which on a Race Car you
can carry, but a lot more involved
for a car that has to be Road legal.
15k for the Car 5k for a S65/S85 another
2k + for G/box etc, then there is which ECU
to use, loom, etc.
So with fitting and all the other unknowns,
exhaust, diff, propshaft, as the 6 speed on the
S65 has a larger spigot and so on.
Now the big question, 40k plus for a car
that is aropund the same Gross weight and
has say 65 BHP [S65] more power ?
Or 50k plus for a car that gains around
45kg's in exactly the wrong location [S85]
with an extra 130 + ponies for the straights ?
For a Road car then I can see the attraction of
the S85, but why not just use a E46 m3 at
circa 6/7k ?
And for the S65 in the CSL what is that
really worth ? 40k +? with a Manual box ?
If money is no object then whatever, but
when you sit down and really go into it
which I did consider at one stage, then
you have to be really dedicated to the
project.
And the part that skewered it for me was that
it would never drive anything like the
real Iconic E46 GTR.

The Gorilla.

Agreed. Looks like the etch a sketch "396bhp" map did it no favours.:bigcry:

This is what happens to CSLs when you push the engine more than it can take.
