Oil advice and recommendations here

I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

Make
Model
Year
Engine size/type

Any mods

Type of use (road/track)

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

I hope this will help and become a useful thread

Regards
Guy

I imagine that most of us just stick with the standard Castrol Edge stuff for our CSL engines.

But welcome over here, Guy (and Simon). I've been getting Silkolene Pro S for my e30 and e36 M3s off you gents for the last few years.

Where does the oil plus .7 litres etc come up on dash?
Also I am missing the small trumpet pipe rubber should it matter?

On your indicator press the button until you see the oil display come up on the odometer. If you want realtime level then while the car is idling and already warm hold down the sport button - make sure the oil display is up.

As for your second query don't understand.
