Sorry to see you posting this up Eric! :(

When you pulled up alongside me at Brands back in the summer the car was looking stunning, this is a very very nice car for anyone interested!

I'm so sorry to read what you wrote Eric :crybaby: Your CSL is one of the nicer ones around  and if I didn't already have my SG CSL I'd buy yours in a flash, today, without a shadow of a doubt as I've been & seen her many times :smt055
Are you sure you couldn't just tuck her away somewhere safe and reconsider your decision

cheers guys. Matt, hadn't really considered keeping it on the side, it may be an option. If I can sell it for reasonable money it gives me better options, failing that though I may just turn her into a garage queen either way I think it's very possible I won't be at anymore TD's :bigcry: however for a finale I may go racing for one season  but not in anything like a CSL prob the caterham academy, I'm all in the air at the mo.

Well, best you take your time my friend and consider all options if, as U say you're all in the air right now. The CSL like yours, with low miles and good speck will appreciate in value. A solid investment, so to speak, though it'll be a shame for her to become a garage queen as CSLs are at their best when driven :supz: There's nothing worst then regretting a rushed decision. ATB

This is the original plate, it is on a private plate now and as this sale wasn't planned I have some work to do before I can actually let it go like get the plate switch over, paint the front bumper. It's just doing things like changing the plate makes it feel like it's really going :bigcry: Once those things are done, I'll get nice photos on.

Is it still for sale, what kind of life has it had, have the rtabs been done, is the paint flaking off the bumper and how many owners?

Trying to post in the wanted section but won't allow me, looking for a low miles immaculate csl for up to £30k.

(WTF has the RTAB got to do with anything as they can be replaced for £100. and bumper sprayed for £200 and no matter how may owners none will be as clueless as you;))

I'm very sorry to cause offensive but that's what I was told to look for by a mechanic. Please advise me on what are relevant questions to ask sellers?

Regarding bumper I was told some were replaced under warranty because paint wasn't sticking to them. Regarding life its had, I merely don't want one thats been hammered round a track all it's life. The owners thing, I just don't want one thats been passed from owner to owner because it doesn't feel right or a press car.

Where do you get rtabs done for £100 and bumper resprayed for £200, I just rung a murketts and was quoted a lot more?

Welcome mate ... dont worry about Shimmy .. he is on his menstrual cycle. None of the vehicles for sale on here will have had a hard life, or have been tracked very much ...we are a very caring , specialist clique who love our CSL's ...some too much !:gayfight:.. we wouldnt dream of treating them badly ! You are obviously foreign are you in the UK? if not where from ?

There's a very good buy guide on here somewhere. Take a look.

If you use a good specialist you'll get those items done at a much more reasonable rate than a dealer.;) Use dealers for warranty/service work by all means but not everything.
Ask about on here and you'll get some good recommendations for a trusted specialist.

so it's left me to say what a great car it is then? I guess if Furbix had read the entire post he'd have seen the RATB's have been done. It has had a number of owners too but I think people will back me up here I don't think it matters (I would say that though!) Truth be told it worried me when i bought it but not when I saw it (I bought it before I saw it -on faith, well not entirely I rang the BMW dealers that had done the service work and asked there opinion first). All I can say is read the entire thread for other opinions on my car and then give me a call. I honestly think if you are serious and come and see this car you wont walk away! That's good for you and will probably mean I'll be trawling gutters on the broken road to nowhere land feeling sorry for myself and wishing I never sold the car!!
Oh and the paint is flaking from the bumper and no it isn't a warranty issue - I checked but I am getting it done.

Agreed number of owners doesn't bother me, this is the type of car to change hands often, some people just have to have had one for a year or sometimes less, some are bought as part of a collection then sold on. Everyone says that these are cars to be bought on condition. I never had paint flaking issues, I imagine they are nothing compared to stone chipping. I would budget that the front end will need respraying every few years unless you armourfend it. Although that can yellow over time.

I think regarding the warranty on the paint then they did do a few in the earlier days but the time has long since passed for that.

I would say that the cars that have been tracked have been well looked after, they generally want for nothing and the car was designed for it, not to be solely sat in a garage, on the motorway, or in car parks at 'meets'.

+1 You HAVE to go on condition, I've never bought a car on owners, I couldn't care less personally if a car's had 2 or 20 previous owners, if it's a good car it's a good car and Eric's is CERTAINLY a good car! ;)

mattCSLnut

Agree both with Fasteddie and Azreal. Number of owners on RARE cars like the CSL is irrelevant. It's not unusual on such cars (Porsche, Ferrari & Lambos included) to have 3 previous owners within the first 3 years. My CSL was on it's third owner (it's actual first, proper owner) within a month and a bit !!! from the original date of registration. First two owners seemed to be part time Car dealers, buying an early CSL on speculation to sell on for a profit :smt047
First one bought the car on 1st of September 2003 (the very first day of '53 plate cars, so no coincident there  ) and SOLD it on 3rd of October 2003 to another Dealer who must have had a buyer for it already, as he only had it for 9 days !!! Yes 9 days... long enough for him to apply a private plate to it (M3 WPC) prior to sale. As it happens these were the initials of the third owner's Company name, Wincanton Print Company = WPC ;)
The third owner (the proper first owner in my eyes ) then had my CSL for 2 and a half years as a Company car  They then Part Exchanged it @ BMW Canterbury in 2006 where it sat around for 4 months before they SOLD it onto it's fourth owner (another Company car driver and it's second proper owner) as a BMW Approved Used car. After that it was Rags (who's on here from time to time) who owned it for 10 months, and then Jeff (who use to be on here) who owned it for just 6 months prior to me.
It's amazing what you can discover for a Fiver, from DVLA
For the record... Eric's CSL is an absolute MINTER and if I didn't have mine already he'd be without his by now  as I said before

Easy Franco !!;) .. no one has been hard on the guy, its just the way we are ! ....until we get to know people they could just be breezing in here to pick up tips, and ideas then go and buy and not be seen again, their choice of course, but when it comes to buying and selling on here, it wouldnt be asking a lot for a small donation to the cause, and gaining access to the wealth of intelligence that is the CSLRegister !! ... sit down Brett :hahaha:. Interestingly enough, throughout this post, the ONLY 2 people who arent in the Blue and Bold is Furbix and yourself !!;) ... oh yeah and md23 and toplad !! :hahaha: ... bugger !

Franco - there's loads of love here on CSLR, it's a well known fact! :smt057

Perhaps Mr Furbix's first post would have gone down better along the lines of an introduction and slightly better worded questions rather than several blunt ones about a particular car.

We're protective of our regular members and their cars on here lol :smt052
