Read the regs and the blue book but fireproof underwear is normally optional. I'd recommend it though as if the worst happens and you are trapped in a burning car the last thing you want is your under garments melting even though your suit is ok - the heat still gets transferred though the suit you see...
I can recommend the Stand 21 stuff, don't feel like you are going to boil alive in it, not cheap mind but then as you've discovered, motorsport isn't ;)

LOL, just ring them up then, less button presses ;)
Race Clothing: (C(c)77 to 86 applies)
a) Fire resistant under clothing (e.g. underwear, balaclava, socks etc.) is recommended
for use in the Championship.
b) Competitors are responsible for their own crash helmet complying with the
requirements of 2009 MSA Competitors Yearbook C(c) 87 to 99.
c) It is compulsory to use an FIA approved HANS device. The helmet must be
appropriate to the HANS device in use and Competitors are responsible for this
complying with the 2009 MSA Competitors Yearbook C(c) 88.
d) Cool suits maybe used but must not interfere with airflow outside the cockpit.
Looks like underwear is optional.
HANs device is mandatory so you'll need one of those and a lid with HANs posts too. 20 degree is the angle you want for a saloon car but you'll need to try them on for size. I got the carbon fibre one but they've bought out a new model that sits between the cheapest one and the carbon one so I would take a look at that.

Hold on a bit if you like, we are coming up with a CSL Cup race suit that will be at a discount to the RRP.
Hans is not compulsory but recommended, give Malcom a call at MSAR (they are a series sponsor) he will sort you a deal.

Nomex underwear recommended as well.

"It is compulsory to use an FIA approved HANS device."
Might want to update the regs if it is recommended? I personally thought it was a great idea that it was written in - they save lives and will be mandatory soon enough anyway.

Ah, will need to check that, might have been something BARC put in. Everyone wears them now anyway, I've not seen a racer in the alst couple of season not wear one.

In all seriousness its a big issue, it gets fecking hot with fire proof undercrackers and 2 layers of fire proofing and no AC.
Especially if you are as fat as I am.

Its a fine line when endurance racing, I dont think Nathan would like me pi$$ing in his expensive Recaros :hahaha:
Key is to eat light as well, a burger and chips followed by a 20 min stint in race gear in a very hot car will leave you going for a stroll so that you dont throw up in front of your team mates :gayfight:

You piss in that seat and you own it ;)
And I used to moan wearing a leather Power Ranger suit racing bikes, I reckon this will be worse :bigcry::bigcry::bigcry:
At least with my bike racing helmet (Arai RX7) I could whip the whole lining out (on studs) to dry it between stints. No such luck with my Arai GP6 :bigcry:

In the 24hr I did a 4hr stint in the car, I drank 2 litres from my water bottle feeder in the car and still didn't actually go for a piss for nearly 2 hrs later. Its not to be under estimated really.
Stand 21 are doing a suit deal for us for registered competitors, made to measure suits, will send an email out about it asap.

I've got a stand21 suit - they really are lovely, good work John.
PS. 4hour stint = good fuel economy!

Errr, that is not right Mr Thorn! 3 Hours in one go is the maximum you can do.
Timing screens flag up those that haven't pitted for 180 minutes and blag flag ensues.
Still, 3 hours is still impressive. :smokin:
I managed a 2,50 stint in Henk's E46 compact M3GTR flat out! Was a good stint.
Same race I managed a 2,55 stint behind the safety car in fog. That was a low point in my racing life!

Yeah techincally 3hrs is max, however I spent 2 stints behind the safety car for 48 mins and 12 mins in pitlane while we tried to fix the front splitter and the rest mapping round in 4th gear.
