As some of you know i had my new diff fitted with the 4.10 gears fitted.

My first impressions are good, the car certainly seems sharper on acceleration, nothing outstanding but defo better. for some reason it seems better in 3rd and 4th gear?????

Everyday driving doesn't seem much different around town and on a road trip it cruised at 80-85 fine with an mpg return of about 30mpg.

On track at Snetterton on the back straight i used to go into 5th just before the 300 board but now i would say i'm hitting 5th a good 100-150 metres sooner thus improving my top speed.

Overall i would recommend the conversion.

If i was doing a lot of commuting in the car i would have a re-think but for what i use the car for (fast road & trackdays) it's a good mod.

Interesting mate, i would like to have a sit/drive of your car back-to-back with mine to compare.

Has the rev dependant drone area now shifted? Presumably it sits in a different range bracket now? More annoying for everyday driving maybe?

Cheers,

Rob.

The annoying drone on mine is under 3000rpm so now the revs have increased at cruising speed it has removed the drone.

No probs about a test drive, anytime.

Bealo are you actually travelling faster on the straight.

Obviously you will hit 5th at lower speed now due to the gearing change,

this is a mod Im definitely thinking of getting done, my previous m3 had a 4.10 diff and it was remapped (bought like this) it seemed to pack more low down pull than the csl did for some reason. It felt good anyway,

is there any difference between a M3 dif and a csl dif ? ie does a 4.1 made for a M3 fit a csl ?

You got it fitted shimmy, if so how much and where from,

Wonder if the car would need remapping once diff was installed

bought but not picked it up yet, you dont want to know how much i promise you!

i dont think mapping will affect aything but my concern was on the SMG gear chnages but speaking to a few specialists the say its ok with OEM SMG settings and should be ok without a diff cooler if your not running long sessions

No real difference in mapping but we run diff coolers on the race cars anyway. Track day car doubt you'd need one unless running slicks.
