I spent some quality time with the one i love this Valentine's afternoon...!

I cleaned the rear underside of the car. I really wish that i'd done this sooner having driven on so many salt laden roads recently :banghead:

Looks well mate. I usually get under there with a heavy degreaser and pressure washer. Find it does the trick no bother. probably removed all the protective qualities of the paint right enough, tis that strong.

Am I over-reacting but does the trailing arm not look kind old'ish for a 4-5 year old car? Sorry Glen but just getting a panic on as mine has sat in the garage now since november covered in muck from the road. Find out on Thursday I suppose when I get home...

I last saw underneath back in November when the car was on a ramp. It was grubby but no big deal. When i looked again today it had gotten a fair bit worse since - it has to be road salt as i haven't been able to wash it lately near as much as i'd like. :smt108

The arm looks worse than it actually is - just some light surface corrosion/discolouration - unsightly all the same! Need to get '1cosmicboy' over!

FYI - My car was one of the last production, dated Dec 03 and it has now covered 48k miles.

Aye, mine is a Dec 03 car too, has 34K on it now. Last time I looked, I can't remember them being too bad but hey, it'll clean up...with a bit of sandpaper and hammerite!

But i have seen some that you would think they park in the sea

How and What with did you clean it Glendog?

Elbow grease! :-D

I used Autoglym engine/machine cleaner and a scouring pad! I used a softer brush on delicate bits.

Day 2!

I found the fronts to be not as bad as i had feared. Light surface corrosion on the wishbones, tie bars, and shock body uprights. I wiped most bits with a bit of WD40 after the clean.

I'm not planning on doing this for some time - it takes too long and the neighbours must think i'm a right anorak! :moan:

Good Work. I had a ago too today, but not to the extreme of yours as I will be driving to work through some black salty back roads tomorrow. Let the sun come out, then I can happily spend some time out there with my toothbrush! :hahaha:

Wondering if anyone get this same problem with their APs?

After I clean the wheels (which this time I took off and cleaned thorough) they get rust like water all over the wheels after driven for no more than 1 mile.

Now I remember someone else posting this problem and thought they had a leak, but wondering if its common?

Yes they all do that its the rust on the discs after washing when you move the car it spins on the wheels.

I hate this :banghead: so i dont drive it for about an hour then drive it in to the garage with my foot on the brake

karbonkid

Is this just down to the softer compound pad? Because on rear I have OEM discs and still get it. :banghead:

Mark CSL

Or it could just be rust as all the grey 1 are rusty :hahaha: :hahaha:

Cant imagine the black ones being rusty actually - with them being in at BMW all the time for repairs.

15-02-2009, 10:30 PM
maybe with the extra speed it cleans the wheels :blalalala:

SMD
15-02-2009, 10:41 PM
Mine does that on the wheels after washing even with the standard brakes! :banghead:

glendog74
15-02-2009, 11:09 PM
Mine too... Before and after APs.

If you have the time just let the car sit for 30 mins after a wash, or slowly drive the car forwards backwards to get rid most of it as it's easier to remove before being 'dried on' at speed!

You could get a blower from a garden store and dry them with one of them...if you're COMPLETELY ANAL like some of the guys on that 'detailing world' Forum!!!

I was reading a post the other morning about a boy who bought an ASTRA VXR Nurburgring edition (ooooooh, can you tell I'm being Cynical...is that the right word???) brand new, spend ages checking it over, as you do with a new car it is after all alot of money, but this guy got a paint depth gauge out and everything! Anyone wanna link or shall I not bore you to complete death.

I mean, respect to 1cosmicboy's efforts for getting the car from the state it was in to how she's looking these days but who buys a BRAND NEW CAR then spends 3 months detailing it???

Anyway, gotta love these Black and Silver Grey jokes, crack me up big time! :blalalala:

eay solution use a watering can to rinse and go careful. not a hose pipe and stay away fron the brakes with a hose your filling the cals with water
