Funny it being number 432 when there was just 422 right hand ones..... :hahaha:

Also bmw didnt number them when they were made so noone knows what number they have..... not a good selling point for me if the dealer doesnt know his stuff, or at least check it out before stating it!

maybe its number 432 out of the total of right hand drive cars built world wide, which was 500 odd,

Ahem... oops! thats what I meant.....

But it was confirmed that they couldnt number them as no number was given on the production run...

i would have thought the last digits on the VIN are the unique ones given to your car and CSLs the numbers do seem to confirm this, the first number are the factory options i believe. Hope mark can clarify this a bit more how the numbers are matched to a specific option

Not quite that easy I am afraid, there was a discussion about this over on BM3W a while ago and one of the guys got the following info from BMW directly I believe:

"... have finally gotten word from BMW and it is something I didn't expect.

The fact is, BMW builds better cars than anything else. After numerous dialogs und misunderstandings within BMW I have been told that BMW will not be able to give out the build numbers.

This is because BMW cannot assign the CSL numbers to their production line.

The reason is that the CSL was taken out of the production line several times e.g. because of CF Roof, rear seat assembly and so forth. This meant the slots where always different. This meant that one CSL could have overtaken another CSL in the Production Process. Since BMW never intended to make plates for our cars they never documented the production process in full detail.

BMW admitted that to satisfy CSL owners they decided to make up a formula using VIN+1 even though they have no idea if that is correct."

As I said earlier, I cannot substantiate any of this but it does seem to explain the problem scenario pretty well!!
